World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not be able to compete at the Madrid Open 2026 due to a wrist injury. The tournament takes place in the Spanish capital from 20 April to 3 May and is expected to feature some of the biggest tennis stars. A left hamstring injury kept Alcaraz out of the 2025 edition of the Masters 1000 event."There are some news that are incredibly hard to share," the seven-time singles Grand Slam winner wrote on X. "Madrid is home, one of the most special places on my calendar, and that's why it hurts so much not to be able to play here for the second year in a row. It hurts especially not to be in front of my countrymen, in a tournament that means so much. Thank you for the unwavering affection, and I hope we see each other soon."Alcaraz also withdrew from the Barcelona Open this month after injuring his wrist in the opening match against Finland's Otto Virtanen on Tuesday (14 April). The Olympic silver medallist could have started playing in Madrid as late as the Round of 32 on Sunday (26 April), but opted to withdraw beforehand, judging that he will not recover in time.
